Jakob Olsen was the son of Ole Jakobsen, Buvik. It is not clear who the mother was, but Lind is of the opinion that his wife Anne was much younger, and must have been his second wife. Jacob was a farmer at Buvik from about 1676, when he took over half of the farm from his mother. According to Lind, it is very likely that Jakob lived somewhere outside of Folda until his stepmother died (or moved), after which he came to Buvik wit his family. The name of Jakob's wife is not known.

Jacob Olsen was buried 14/5 1692, age 65. The record states that he died with his daughter in the mountains of Buvik in an unfortunate avalanche.[1]
